In "Mechatronic Guitar," Roberto Pugliese operates a radical metamorphosis of one of the most iconic instruments in our musical culture, transforming it into an autonomous organism where classical lutherie and robotics merge into a novel resonant body. The work presents itself as a self-sufficient sonic architecture: inside, an integrated loudspeaker converts the soundboard into a source for synthetic sounds, while externally, the instrument is "inhabited" by a series of electromechanical devices. Precision beaters and moving systems solicit the wood and other integrated materials, extracting percussive timbres and vibrations that expand the acoustic possibilities of the object beyond its traditional limits. Governing this mechanical ensemble is an algorithmic intelligence that generates an open composition, a score in progress that never repeats itself exactly. In this scenario, the human gesture of the musician disappears to leave room for a tight dialogue between the rigor of mathematical logic and the unpredictability of physical matter. The guitar ceases to be a simple instrument to be held to become a vibrant entity that inhabits space, a sculpture that thinks and plays through an absolute coherence between the precision of code and the organic nature of its voice.
